Which size should I get?
Each cafe seems to have a different standard however below are our best recommendations on the different sizes. Please note that being handmade, small variations will exist in sizing.
- 12oz medium (approx 340ml) ~ One of the most popular takeaway sizes, great for all coffee types, including iced coffee. Similar measurement to an in-house large mug. Includes silicone lid and heat sleeve.
- 8oz small (approx 225ml) ~ This size resembles coffee house glass cups, perfect for mocha, latte and cappuccino. It’s a very close favourite size alongside the 12oz. Includes silicone lid (no sleeve).
- 6oz x-small (approx 175ml) ~ Small cup size most closely replicating an in-house ceramic cup & saucer. Great for 3/4 latte, cappuccino & flat white. For those who like their coffees stronger and less milky. Includes silicone lid (no sleeve).
Are the takeaway cups dishwasher safe?
Yes, our cups are dishwasher safe! Our lids and sleeves are made from non-toxic, 100% silicone and are also dishwasher safe on the top rack. If your cup has a silicone sleeve, remove before washing. After drying, flip your cup upside down and stretch the sleeve back over the cup, slowly teasing it upwards until you are happy with the position.
Will the cup get too hot to hold?
Ceramic cups take on the warmth of the liquid inside. Most of our 12oz cups come with a silicon heat sleeve which means if your coffee is made at the correct temperature (approx 65 degrees), you’ll be able to hold your cup. Please note that warmer drinks (or some coffees made too warm) may still be too hot to hold despite the heat sleeve. In this case, simply hold your cup like you would a regular paper takeaway cup ~ top and bottom.
For our 8oz and 6oz sizes, we have chosen not to add a heat sleeve as it would cover up most of the cup. As per the above, if you are finding it too hot to hold, simply hold the cup top & bottom like you would a regular paper takeaway cup. Heat sleeves are available for purchase should you wish to add one to your 8oz or 6oz cup.
Some of the external surfaces are unglazed. Will they stain?
All our ceramics are fired to the highest stoneware temperatures, making them highly vitrified and stain resistant. Coffee and tea stains should come off easily when washed. Some substances may stain, mainly oily liquids, so best to avoid contact with those. To avoid scuff marks we recommend adding one of our waterproof pouches to keep your cup safe in your bag and your bag clean from minor spills. The pouch also hangs on your wrist if needed, freeing up your hands.
Can I drink straight from the cup without the silicone lid, even if the top outside rim is not glazed?
Absolutely. All our ceramics are very high fired which makes them highly vitrified and all our cups can be used without the lid. Unglazed surfaces are polished to be nice and smooth to the touch, and are stain resistant. We personally love the feel, however glazed surfaces can be a personal preference for some, in which case you may prefer to choose a takeaway cup with glazed upper rim like Rockpool, White on Stone or Classic White.
All our ceramics are hand-made in our Sunshine Coast studio, Australia. Variations and irregularities may occur in size, shape, colour & glaze, making each piece unique and one-of-a-kind.
